With the world seeking to social distance more and more and turning to their homes to spend most days, many of us (myself included) have begun looking into adopting a pet in Dubai. Pets add so much joy and light to our homes, and besides – adopting means you’re doing something good for the world! So without further ado, let’s get into the key factors to consider when adopting a pet in Dubai:
Legalities of the UAE adopting a pet in dubai
The first thing you’ll need to do is check the legalities of your building. While some tenants allow for pets, other communities are not as pet friendly. Before you adopt a pet, you should ensure your tenancy contract allows it. You don’t want to risk having a neighbor spot you with your pooch, especially if they’re scared of dogs. No joke!
Those aren’t the only rules you’ll need to follow. The UAE has its own rules for dog owners too and failing to follow them can land you in hot water. When adopting a pet, you should look into the regulations and penalties around failing to vaccinate your dog, keeping a prohibited breed of dog, walking your dog off-leash in public and failing to clean-up after your dog.
How pet-friendly is your community? adopting a pet in dubai
Your community can either make or break your first experience adopting a pet, especially if you’ve adopted a dog. The key thing of course is to ensure you’re able to walk your dog in your area of residence, and that the other members of your community are quite used to having dogs around. Nothing annoys me more than the feeling that I’m scaring people off with my dog. Seriously!

Do your research and make sure you’re ready to adopt
Seriously! It’s easy to go out there and adopt on a whim – the real challenge is ensuring you actually have what it takes to take care of the pet. It would be unfair to adopt if you don’t have the time or resources to dedicate to your pet. Think vaccinations, pet walking, grooming, food and more – those are all things that you’ll need to add to your responsibilities list.
